This needs some massively flared fenders and then needs to be rallied.

As you already now, I REALLY wish I had 2200 bucks so I could get the car and the bonus parts.

It would probably be followed up with a lawyer needed to handle the divorce proceedings.
She’d probably tell me to pick a Mercury, the bubble back or the Montego.
The Montego would win, despite the fact that this little 4 cylinder turbo is probably more reliable right now haha.

Or just like a double stack of front lights. Drop those 4 down a bit and place 3 more above them

Though if I bought her an old wrangler...

If it were green...
the first car I remember was my parent’s 79 green and tan Mercury Capri. It even had louvers.
But to be honest, all the mods I would want to do... I might as well buy an A60 Mark II Supra.

Looking at this car, I really can’t say I think it needs much if any further modding. It’s the quintessential American hot hatch, with enough light mods to add bite, and no more.

The thing is... I would want an IRS SVT Cobra subframe swap, subframe connectors and jacking rails, Griggs racing front suspension, SVT Cobra 5-bolt disc brakes, a late model 5-speed or even a T56 6-speed, and with the Lima Turbo, I would want a Volvo 16-valve head conversion, and SVO/Turbo Coupe port injection with aftermarket fuel management, and a front-mounted intercooler.
SVO sail panels or late model flush glass quarter windows... JW Speaker LED projector 4x6 headlight replacements under flush capri covers, I am not a huge fan of the bubble back, so I would go with a Mustang hatch, (maybe even a 79-81 with the rear wiper) with an 87-93 flow-through Mustang GT wing, and 85-86 Mustang tail lights, probably lightly smoke tinted.
With the Pace Car/Cobra/RS front air dam, the car needs saleen side skirts and rear valence to go with it. I would also probably take the hood scoop off, and either leave it off, or replace it with a cowl-facing version. The fake extractor vents, right in front of a fake intake scoop is ridiculous. one or the other, not both, and preferably functional.
Whether black or emerald green, I would also be tempted to do a modified and simplified version of the black magic graphics. (I would keep the stripe along the boxed fenders, and down by the headlights, but I would delete the lower stripe just above the rub strip and over the wheel arches. The stripe in the rub-strip is enough.
I would probably also have to fit FR500, SVT 10th Anniversary, or Panther cast-mesh wheels, with gold/bronze painted centers, but not quite that intense mustard color on the concave SVT Cobra wheels, which is darker than the stripes. I like the wheel style, but the color is too intense. Antique matte/cast pale gold would have been perfect.
I would also badly want the T-tops, rather than what looks like an aftermarket chopped-in sunroof on the topic car.

I wouldn’t go for the Cobra IRS. It’s nice enough when fixed up properly, but these have a much fancier rear suspension than the Mustang from factory. No real reason to dick with it. Front suspension upgrade earns a solid “maybe”, brakes - sure why not, it’s got a T5 so why mess with it?, and upgrades to the head and turbo are another improvement on margin rather than type. Let’s go “maybe” on that as well.
Most of your cosmetic changes I would call you a filthy heathen on. It’s a taste thing, though - people differ. Agreed that the T-tops would be better.
In short, you can see where I would make my case for fine-as-is for the most part: you can make more car out of it, but at some point you’re squeezing blood from a stone, and it’s a really good car for an everyday shrieker without having to put a whole lot into it.

Solidifying the chassis and the IRS would be the BIG ones. I owned a Fox Mustang... I don’t care if it has quadra-shocks, a panhard bar, or a watts link, or an aftermarket 4-link. Both rear tires are geometrically locked together, and cannot articulate over surfaces independently.
A60 or A70 Supra, FC-3S RX7, 280ZX, 300ZX, and even Mitsu StarQuest had IRS at that time, and I am much more for handling than for straight-line drag racing speed.
I realize I am a filthy heathen for mixing Capri and Mustang, but neither of them are ideal, and if they were mixed, it would be fantastic.
To be honest, I prefer the 85-86 Mustang front fascia with the spear-point shape and no-mesh mail-slot grille, compared to earlier Mustangs, flat-nose Capris, and Aero-nose Mustangs. But I prefer Capri’s boxed fenders, and some other sophisticated touches.
I worked out that my ideal car would be a mix between an 86 Mustang and an 86 Capri, with details from other years mixed in, with the IRS and thorough chassis upgrades (I would even want some seam-welding to shore up the rigidity of the chassis, and a 4-point roll hoop, with a fifth point added to tie in to the t-top center bar). Plus I wished for access to the DOHC Ford I6 from Australia, just to have something different than an 8-valve Turbo-4 or the ubiquitous SBF V8 or modular swap.
I realized that I was building an 86 Toyota A70 Mark III Supra Targa.

Yes, but So Japanese. Anyway, on the Crappi, he’s already made subframe connectors - which may suck, or may be dynamite - point is, there’s already been a stab at that, included for free. I’m also a filthy hypocrite, seeing as how I’ve converted my Ranchero to IRS, but I really don’t have a problem with the beam axle. I know that for the first gen Mustang (which in some respects the Fox is closest to of previous gens), they couldn’t squeeze better lap times out of having IRS, so that’s why they abandoned it as an option then. Unpredictability, snap oversteer, harsher ride, but not markedly worse numbers. To me, the lack of refinement is part of the charm.
